Time Management

Lately I have been feeling pretty overwhelmed by everything happening in my life. Juggling school, work, workouts, and friends and family time is hard. I also have to admit that I am a bit of a procrastinator :P But I’ve been working on it everyday and I’m getting better and getting everything I need to get done instead of putting it off till the last minute. 

So I’ve come up with a few tips on how to help yourself stop procrastinating. 

1. Find our where you are wasting time- I think most of us are guilty of spending too much time on Tumblr but that doesn’t mean we have to cut it out completely. Instead just make sure you get all the important stuff done first (like homework, workouts, etc.) and then treat yourself to some downtime with Tumblr or a good book (I’m reading the second book of A Song of Ice and Fire :)

2. Create goals- You only have so many hours in a day so make sure that you use them wisely. If you’re a procrastinator like me, set goals for yourself each day. It’s a lot like working out and losing weight; it’s a lifestyle change and will take time to fully break the habit. Just remember not to beat yourself up to much about not meeting a certain goal. You just have to keep on going and you will get there!

3. Use Time Management Tools- I like using Google Calendar to list out and set up time for myself to do homework and workout. It really helps laying everything out on a calendar and making a visual list of your day. Try to stick to it as much as possible, but don’t worry if things come up, it’s part of life. 

4. Prioritize- Have a lot of things going on all in one day? Feel like everyone needs your attention? Then you need to Prioritize. Make a list of what needs to be done and then decide what needs to be done right away and what can be done later when all the important things are done. 

5. Set Time Limits- I use this one a lot when I’m studying for a big test. Instead of making myself sit down for hours at a time memorizing terms and facts; I break it up into chunks of time. I set a timer for 20 mins to study then after 20 mins I get up to do something else and then go back to studying. This way you don’t feel so stressed out and you stayed focused.
